Ben previously served as Deputy City Treasurer where he led a large staff and supervised the efficient and effective billing and collection of taxes.

Ben currently serves Chesapeake as the Deputy Director of Economic Development. He leads a team of professionals in attracting new business investment and jobs to our city.
Ben also held previous roles in Chesapeake as the Public Utility Accountant, General Manager of the Chesapeake Conference Center, and Deputy Sheriff.
Ben has dedicated 30 years to preparing for this very challenge!

Ben was born and raised in Chesapeake and has resided in various parts of the city, such as Indian River, South Norfolk, Deep Creek, Great Bridge, and Hickory.
A graduate of Indian River High School, he pursued further education and college baseball at Virginia Wesleyan College, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Management, Business and Economics (MBE) with an emphasis on Accounting.
Immediately following graduation, Ben embarked on his career with the City of Chesapeake, now having invested over 32 years in public service. He is the current Deputy Director of Economic Development, spearheading a team that draws new business and job opportunities to the city. In the past, he was the Deputy City Treasurer, overseeing tax collecting tasks, and has also held positions like Public Utility Accountant, General Manager of the Chesapeake Conference Center, and Deputy Sheriff.
Ben and his wife, Robin, of 31 years reside in Chesapeake's Hickory region and are parents to two grown children. Robin, a teacher with Chesapeake Public Schools, has dedicated 33 years to Sparrow Road Intermediate in Indian River. Their son, Taylor, works as a Civil Engineer at McDonough Bolyard and Peck in Chesapeake, while their daughter, Hannah, is pursuing a Master's Degree in Public Health at Old Dominion University.
